The Art of Connection strives to be North East Ohio’s preferred mental health practice for patients and providers.
Throughout my training and experiences, I’ve come to understand the elements that comprise high quality mental health care.
Collaboration: I encourage my patients to collaborate with me throughout their treatment - letting me know if interventions are working or not working. Together, we determine which path to take. I actively communicate with other providers as needed to ensure coordination of care.
Conceptualization: Understanding how symptoms developed is just as important as knowing how to manage them. I want to gain an understanding of how a person’s childhood experiences, race, gender, religion, and sexual orientation impacted how they see themselves and the others. Often, people repeat patterns of behavior. Therapy can be a place to examine what those patterns are, why they continue, and determining how a person wants to move forward.
Creativity: There is no ‘one size fits all’ treatment approach. Being open to each patient’s unique personality is imperative. Therapy can look a lot of different ways - sitting on a couch and talking, walking and talking, playing with blocks, expressing feelings through writing or drawing, or sitting silently with your own thoughts.
Compassion: Starting therapy can be very challenging. Exploring areas of emotional pain can be extremely difficult - and at times scary. I admire my current and future patients for choosing to take on that challenge and feel grateful to be a part of their journey.
